Compare RK's weight before the accident, at his discharge from NSICU, and upon his discharge from the hospital. Compare the probable composition of his body prior to the accident and at the time of discharge from the hospital (fat to lean body mass ratio).

Question 2

What is the purpose of taking a baby aspirin every day? Does it help prevent heart attacks?

When leaving NSICU, RK's weight was drastically reduced due to his high metabolic stress as a result of his increased cranial pressure. After this condition resolved, his BEE returned to normal or below normal and he began to gain weight. His body composition prior to the accident probably had a higher lean to fat ratio than it did when he returned home. During his weight loss period he lost fat and muscle. During his regaining period, since he was inactive, he gained back mostly fat. However, if his posturing was extensive and constant, the change in his ratio may not be that severe since the posturing will build some muscle.

Answer to Question 2

Aspirin impedes blood clotting by blocking prostaglandin synthesis, which prevents formation of the platelet-aggregating substance thromboxane A2.
