As mentioned above, if statins decrease the production of coenzyme Q, it seems logical that there may be a need for a supplement. Another argument for supplementation in the elderly results from the fact that coenzyme Q production decreases with age. Elderly that are taking statins may need a supplement but not all of the literature agrees with this. The article below indicates that statins decrease the level of coenzyme Q in the blood.
