Would you still start at half-strength if the tip of the feeding tube was in the stomach instead of the small bowel? If not, explain why not.

Answer to Question 1

No. If the stomach was functioning right it would mix and dilute the feeding until it was the same concentration as the small bowel mucosa.

Answer to Question 2

Adjusted body weight = (actual body weight - IBW) x .25 + IBW
= (235-178) x .25 + 178 = 57 x .25 + 178 = 192
