Answer to Question 1

The TF Glucerna could be used since it has been designed for this. Complete Modified, as well as other fiber-containing enteral feedings, have been shown to be helpful in controlling hyperglycemia. If either of these are used, arrangements will have to be made with the physician to adjust the protein intake. If it is necessary to get very specific, a modular feeding could be developed.

Answer to Question 2

Basic rule 1: anything that causes the patient discomfort should be eliminated. Additional recommendations include: avoiding any gas-forming foods; foods with undigestible fiber that remain hard as corn, shells of peas and beans, nuts, some raw fruits and vegetables as celery, carrots, etc.; foods with hard seeds as okra, blackberries, etc.

Foods to encourage with diverticulosis include: high-fiber foods that are soft as oat bran, cereals, greens, etc.
