Answer to Question 1

Humalin insulin is a biosynethic human insulin (genetically engineered by recombinant DNA technology). Humalin N is a long acting insulin that is active in the body for approximately 24 hours. Humalin R is a rapid acting insulin and is active for only a few hours.

Answer to Question 2

wt = 98 lbs/2.2 = 44.5 kg ht = 62 x 2.54 = 157.5 cm

BEE = 655 + 9.6 x wt + 1.7 x ht - 4.7 x age
= 655 + 9.6 x 44.5 + 1.7 x 157.5 - 4.7 x 27
= 655 + 427.2 + 267.8 - 126.9
= 1223.1

Stress Factor: 1.3 = 1223 x 1.5 = 1589 or 1600 while in the hospital. Activity of closer to 1.5 would be more accurate when she gets home.
