Answer to Question 1

By participating in the activity he would be increasing muscle mass and increasing his BMR. This would increase the kcals he burns.

Answer to Question 2

Aerobic exercise would strengthen Mr. Y's heart, help increase his BMR, and cause more fat to be burned. Anaerobic would help build muscle mass and strength, increase BMR, and burn more calories during the times when he is not doing exercise. Both would contribute to the numerous advantages attributed to exercise, i.e. increased bone density, iron absorption, and HDL cholesterol, and decreased triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Therefore, both should be considered.

The types of exercise are numerous and should be something Mr. Y likes and can accomplish with reasonable success if he is to continue with his exercise program. Walking, riding an exercise bike, swimming, or doing water aerobics along with light weight training or weight machines if he has access to this equipment are all good activities.
