Risk of cardiovascular disease is inversely associated with levels of HDL cholesterol. Cardi-ovascular risk is positively associated with levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and VLDL cholesterol.

A serum triglyceride level of 175 mg/dL is considered borderline high. Serum triglyceride level <150 mg>500 mg/dL is considered very high.
