Increasing fiber intake gradually may be better tolerated than increasing fiber intake quickly. Nuts and seeds are high in fiber and fat and should be used sparingly. Bran should be added slowly (up to 3 tablespoons per day), and the skin of fruit adds fiber and should be eaten whenever possible.
