Answer to Question 1

A
Crushed medications should be mixed with water when given to tube-fed patients. The feeding tube should also be flushed with water before and after administration of the drug to prevent any mixing with formula. Medications should not be mixed with fruit juice or with diluted or full-strength enteral formula because this may alter the bioavailability of the drug or nutrients in the formula or could clog the feeding tube.

Answer to Question 2

2
Rationale: Use of all dietary supplements should be discussed with a PCP to avoid possible drug interactions or toxicities. Products may be labeled as containing all natural ingredients, but these ingredients may still cause adverse side effects or toxicity. The label all natural does not imply that there are no pharmacodynamic effects since 25 of approved drugs were produced from plants and herbal remedies first used by traditional healers.
