Answer to Question 1

A
Feedback:
The NG is more appropriate for the gentleman with a functional GI tract and thermal injuries as his need for enteral feedings will be short-term. The others are more suited for an ostomy approach due to their long-term need for nutritional support.

Answer to Question 2

C
During the first 24 to 48 hours after a major burn, nutrition care focuses on replacement of fluids and electrolytes. Provision of adequate protein is important long term, but is not the first priority in this early treatment period. Patients do not usually experience nausea and vomiting. Patients are usually hospitalized for a long period after a major burn and do not need education concern-ing their nutrient needs while they are receiving acute care.
