Answer to Question 1

3
Rationale: Vitamins and minerals play an important role in each stage of the healing process and are necessary to promote wound healing. Vitamins and minerals do not promote weight gain or play a role in maintaining a fluid balance in the body. Proteins are needed for replacement of lean muscle mass.

Answer to Question 2

B
Adequate intakes of vitamin C, vitamin A, and zinc are especially important during stress and recovery. Needs for most micronutrients increase, but these three are especially important. Vita-min C is needed for collagen formation for wound healing. Vitamin A and beta-carotene are im-portant for healing of epithelia and as antioxidants. Zinc increases the tensile strength of healing wounds.
