Answer to Question 1

D
After major stress, such as an accident causing multiple broken bones, patients are in the ebb phase (commonly known as shock) for 36 to 48 hours. By 72 hours after the injury, they would be in the flow phase and would be highly hypermetabolic.

Answer to Question 2

C
Feedback:
Ill adult clients who receive EN experience less septic morbidity and fewer infectious complications than clients who receive parenteral nutrition. EN costs less; however, it has not been proven to impact mortality, and there is little evidence that EN reduces the length of hospital stay.
