Answer to Question 1

3

Rationale: Sufficient iron stores are needed to prevent anemia. Treatment with EPO and adequate oral or intravenous iron supplementation has been successful in helping clients achieve target hemoglobin levels. Dietary sources of iron should also be included in the diet. Adequate supplies of calcium, potassium, and magnesium are essential is maintaining health, but have no role in the treatment of anemia.

Answer to Question 2

A
Elemental formulas contain partially or fully digested nutrients. They generally provide an ade-quate diet, but do not contain intact, undigested nutrients. They do not necessarily contain spe-cific forms of minerals. Formulas that contain a single macronutrient are called modular formulas.
