Answer to Question 1

3

Rationale: Encourage the self-feeding whenever possible. Use assistive devices such as a plate guard, utensils, with built-up grip, or suction cup to hold late in place as needed. Placing the food in front of the patient one dish at a time helps to simplify presentation. Also it would be important to offer the most nutrient-sense items first to maximize intake. When feeding an individual with a cognitive impairment it is recommended to minimize disruptions by others during the meal to avoid distractions. When feeding the patient it is important to sit at eye level.
