Answer to Question 1

2

Rationale: The loss of lean muscle mass in older adults is called sarcopenia. The biological process of aging also brings bout changed in adipose, bone mineral content, and total body water. Xerostomia is the insufficient saliva production which occurs naturally. Dysphagia is difficulty swallowing which can contribute to an altered intake. Pagophagia is the consumption of ice and freezer frost.

Answer to Question 2

A
It is very difficult to reduce the body's set point for body weight and body fatness; regular aero-bic exercise seems to be the most effective intervention. Protein intake, weight loss medications, and vitamin supplements do not affect set point.
