Answer to Question 1

1
Rationale: A child's weight should triple and length should double by the first birthday. Baby M is at an acceptable weight for her age based on her birth weight. Birth charts should be used to monitor individual trends of growth over time. Children who are below the 5th percentile may need further nutritional evaluation. Rapid growth and ongoing brain development require adequate amounts of calories, fat, and other nutrients in early childhood.

Answer to Question 2

C
Coffee contains caffeine which helps increase fatty acid oxidation and spares glycogen. Milk contains protein, but amino acids have not been proven to have ergogenic benefits. Beer contains alcohol which is not an ergogenic acid. Ginseng has not been shown to have any ergogenic value.
