Most digestion and absorption occurs in the small intestine. Denaturation is not part of the diges-tive process. Segmentation occurs in the small intestine, but not excretion. Peristalsis occurs throughout the digestive tract and mechanical digestion occurs in the mouth and stomach.

The RDA for protein for a healthy adult is 0.8 g/kg; therefore, a healthy adult who weighs 75 kg has an RDA for protein of 60 g (0.8 g/kg  75 kg = 60 g).
