Ned, a farmer, sells onions every year to Grenaldi's Restaurant. This year, Ned agrees to supply 1000 bushels of onions over a three-month period for a set price. One month after the contract term begins, Ned experiences a serious problem and his crop is reduced. He asks Grenaldi's to accept 900 bushels instead of the agreed-upon 1000 for the same price.
