Why would it be advantageous for the court reporter to have a one-stroke designation that would translate with the type of examination and who is doing the examination?

Answer to Question 1

Because it saves time and helps the reporter write quickly and accurately.

Answer to Question 2

Without the designation of speakers the record would not be clear as to who is doing the question or who is doing the talking at any given time.
