Why would it be advantageous for the court reporter to have a one-stroke designation that would translate with the type of examination and who is doing the examination?

Why is it important to note the type of examination and who is doing the examination after the witness setup?

Answer to Question 1

Because it saves time and helps the reporter write quickly and accurately.

Answer to Question 2

Without the designation of speakers the record would not be clear as to who is doing the question or who is doing the talking at any given time.
