Two vaccinesGardasil and Cervarixare currently available to prevent cervical cancer in girls and young women. Gardasil is approved for females ages 9 to 26 to protect against cervical cancer and prevent genital warts and for males ages 9 to 26 to prevent genital warts. Cervarix, which does not protect against genital warts, is approved for females ages 10 to 26 to help prevent cervical cancer. Cervarix has not been approved for use in boys or men.

Federal authorities and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend HPV vaccination for:
 All girls and boys ages 11 or 12, with catch-up vaccinations for those ages 13 to 21.
 Women ages 13 through 26 who were not previously vaccinated.
 Men ages 13 through 21 who were not previously vaccinated; men ages 22 through 26
may also receive the vaccine.
