People suffering from various kinds of addiction have been found to benefit from therapy when they are able to develop a greater internal locus of control.

FEEDBACK: Research in Korea found that people high in internal academic locus of control (believing they would do well in school) were more likely to persist in an online college program than those who scored low in internal academic locus of control (Joo, Joung, & Sim, 2011). A study of college students in Turkey found that those high in internal academic locus of control were far less likely to become addicted to Internet use than those who scored low in internal academic locus of control (Iskender & Akin, 2010).
