Answer to Question 1

The purpose of this question is to illustrate to students that some operational decisions they make will require their own thoughtful consideration of how a business should or should not be operated. While some students will no doubt support a policy of limiting employees' outside work personal activities, others may not.

The important point to make to students in this question is that their decisions must be well considered, uniformly applied, and defensible should the occasion arise that they must defend them.

Some students may find this question particularly challenging if they have never worked in an operation that serve alcoholic beverages. Assure the students that the information they would need to address this question can be found later in this text (see in-chapter reference to Chapter 10: Beverage Products and Service).
