Answer to Question 1

Nearly everyone is interested in how they are viewed by the chef supervisor. In the absence of
specific feedback, team members often form their own conclusions by comparing their
experiences with those of others around them. This can sometimes lead to wrong conclusions.
Clearing up doubt or uncertainty is a major purpose of the performance appraisal.

A productive appraisal, along with providing a review of the employee's work, serves as a work
session between supervisor and employee in which the chef supervisor takes the time and effort
to meet with an individual employee and set new goals and objectives for the coming year. A
productive appraisal recognizes that people are the most valuable resource of any organization.
