Answer to Question 2

The chef supervisor's job is extensive. He or she must be a highly skilled culinarian as well as a
people developer, supervisor, coach, and team-builder. The chef supervisor is a front-line leader
in a property, with a major role to play in the development of the foodservice establishment. The
chef supervisor contributes directly to the success and profitability of the operation by selecting
the right people to be part of the culinary team. Once the team members have been selected, the
chef supervisor must provide training, coaching, and performance evaluation to assist each team
member in achieving his or her full potential. The chef supervisor must provide the vision and
leadership that will form the individual members into a team and motivate both the individual
and the team.
