The courts have ruled that prison officials are liable for damages if they display indifference to attacks on inmates occurring inside the prison. According to the courts, if force is used in a good faith effort to maintain control, there is no liability on the correctional staff. However, if the prisoners can prove that corrections officers acted maliciously, then the corrections staff can be held liable.
