Most timing belt drives are designed so that there are at least six teeth engaged with the small pulley. When six or more teeth engage the tooth strength of the belt exceeds the tensile strength.

The three common types of mounting sheaves: (a) bored to size or press-fit sheaves, (b) taper-lock type compression bushing, and (c) QD type compression bushing.
