When using the Tape Measure tool to resize a group or component, why must the group or component be opened for editing before Tape Measure is used?

What will be an ideal response?

Question 2

An entry-level engineer is given the job of creating a detailed assembly drawing of a trailer-mounted pump and motor assembly. The engineer models major components such as the diesel motor, the pump, and trailer frame as well as all the small parts such as wheels, tires, nuts, bolts, and lights. When the job is complete (after 10 solid weeks of work) and all the drawing elements are correct, the work is presented to the supervisor. What reaction would be expected from engineering management? Was this an efficient use of resources? Do you have suggestions that would streamline the process?

Answer to Question 1

If you use Tape Measure to assign a length to a particular edge, and that edge is within a closed group or component, the resizing will affect the entire model. If you want the resizing to affect only what's contained in a group or component, the group or component must be opened for editing first.

Answer to Question 2

Using or importing Standard Hardware files available from the hardware manufacturers could have been used.
Wheels, tires, nuts, bolts, and lights CAD file parts will be available and do not need re-drawing.
