Protein needs are not increased by physical activity. Needs increase for B vitamins, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin for energy metabolism. The amount of sodium and potassium needed is increased due to losses from perspiration. Females need a sufficient intake of iron. Meal planning should be done according to MyPlate. A pregame meal should be eaten 3 hours before the event and should consist of carbohydrates and small amounts of protein and fats. Concentrated sugars should be avoided.
