A high-fiber diet is used to prevent diverticulosis, constipation, hemorrhoids, and colon cancer. It is useful for the treatment of diabetes and atherosclerosis. Low-fiber diets are used in cases of severe diarrhea, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, and intestinal blockage.
