Visual perception of food is our first impression of a food. A food's shape, color, consistency, serving size, and defects are seen by the human eye. Often, people make decisions on what type of foods they will eat based on the way the food looks. So, what you see can determine what you eat. For example, a plate of colorful vegetables, chicken, and cobbler is more appealing than a plate of mashed potatoes, cabbage, and vanilla ice cream.

Goals  Research, consumer preference; program strategy and business plan  preliminary testing, trained vs. consumer panels; professional staff; testing facilities; and testing methods.
A suitable environment for this activity is one with no odors, colors, or noise, and independence of subjects.
