Answer to Question 1

Answer: Training yourself to be more optimistic would focus on teaching yourself a more optimistic explanatory style, leading you to see negative events as unlikely to occur again. For example, a program based on cognitive-behavioral therapy trained pessimistic college students to question their automatic negative thoughts and keep on task using time management and anti-procrastination techniques.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: According to a study, progesterone increases after women have an intimate conversation with someone, compared to a neutral conversation. Progesterone may promote a tend and befriend response to stressseeking social support from othersinstead of the fight-or-flight response to stress more common among those high in power motive. In the long run, the tend and befriend response (found more often among women) might be healthier for the immune system and possibly for heart health as well. It might be one reason why women are less likely to have heart attacks than men.
