These types overlap with the ORVIS for all but the last ORVIS category. The Holland scales and the ORVIS were written by different authors, so they differ in their categories and category labels. However, the two systems overlap more than they differ; they just use different names for the same types of careers (for example, leadership on the ORVIS equates to enterprising on the Holland).

These scales do not directly measure personality, but most people probably have their personality traits in mind when they think about which jobs might suit them. Vocational interest scales can be surprisingly accurate. The ORVIS suggests a range of careers that might fit your personality, not a specific job. That is partially because your specific career choice will also depend on your interests, skills, and education level.
