Chronic marijuana use often increases the appetite. Many people who use marijuana often eat sugary or fatty foods, and may gain weight as a result.
Chronic cocaine use results in the decrease of a person's appetite. People who abuse cocaine are usually undernourished and if they have an eating disorder, cocaine use may make this eating disorder worse. In a study, rats given cocaine or food always chose cocaine over the food and would die of starvation.
