Table 10-6 shows the protein needs of athletes. Most people can obtain these quantities of protein by eating high-quality food sources of protein. Foods contain the ideal ratio of all of the amino acids as well as other essential nutrients that would not be found in protein powders. Athletes can ingest lean proteins in the form of fish, chicken, nuts, or beans without taking in excessive levels of saturated fats.
