Answer to Question 1

Most people's muscles will begin to use fats from the bloodstream after 20 minutes of activity. At this point, the stored glycogen levels may be reduced. Studies have shown that muscles will use fatty acids more efficiently when they are trained. The levels of enzymes that break down fats are higher in trained muscles than in untrained muscles. Aerobic athletes have a stronger heart and lungs that can deliver more oxygen to the muscles. This allows them to break down fats aerobically to produce more energy.
