Answer to Question 1

Magnesium helps the body's enzymes work more efficiently. It is also necessary for the body's ability to uptake and metabolize calcium, vitamin D, and potassium. Magnesium deficiency may result in impaired calcium, vitamin D, and potassium metabolism, which could appear as deficiencies of these essential nutrients as well. People who are severely magnesium deficient may experience neurological symptoms such as weakness or confusion.
Many Americans eat a large amount of processed foods each day. Magnesium is found in whole foods and is lost during processing. Most Americans only get about 2/3 of their daily recommended magnesium.
