Answer to Question 1

You can suggest that your aunt reduce her consumption of red meat. While preparing meat, she can cut away all visible signs of fat. She can also pick the leanest cut of meat. This way, she will reduce her intake of saturated fats, which may cause an increase in her LDL levels.
You can suggest that she replace animal products such as butter in recipes with vegetable oils such as olive oil or corn oil. This way, she can still get the flavor and texture from fats but she will be getting more unsaturated fats in place of saturated fats in her diet. This may also help her to decrease her blood LDL levels.
You can also suggest that your aunt increase her intake of dietary fiber. Fiber may, in itself, reduce the level of LDL in her blood, but if she chooses more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to increase her fiber intake while controlling calories, she will automatically reduce her intake of meats and other sources of saturated fats.
