Your friend believes that all fats must be bad for one's health, so he is trying to restrict his dietary fat intake to a minimum. Give him 3 reasons why he should never restrict his fats to a very low level.

Answer to Question 1

This person needs to obtain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to maintain his body tissues. The essential fatty acids (linolenic and linoleic) are not made by the body. Adequate levels of omega-3 fatty acids may also reduce inflammation in the body as well as support the health of the nervous and cardiovascular systems.
This individual may not be getting enough fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, and E from his diet. If the fat restriction is temporary, the body can draw on stored vitamins, but if the fat restriction is long term, the person may become deficient in any one or all of these vitamins.
He needs fat for energy so that his body is not using protein for energy. If he is taking in enough carbohydrates, he may be getting enough energy, but he still needs fats to supply some of the body's energy needs. The body also needs fat stores for cushioning of organs as well as for insulation.
