Why are people who consume many of their carbohydrates in the form of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) more apt to overeat than people who consume carbohydrates in the form of starches or sucrose (table sugar)?

Most foods that contain table sugar or starches are filling since they take up space in the stomach and may be combined with protein or fats, which can also reduce the appetite. Most sodas now contain HFCS, and if people drink a lot of soda in addition to other foods, they are likely to be taking in excess calories, which can lead to weight gain. People do not perceive soda as being filling since it is a liquid and not a solid.
