Answer to Question 1

Pre-diabetes and diabetes may not have obvious symptoms that alert a person. A person may feel tired, gain weight, get infections more often, or want to eat more, but they may just attribute such changes to a stressful lifestyle. They need to have a blood test to determine if the levels of glucose are in a healthy range.
Many people assume that diabetes, especially type 2 (90-95 of cases), only runs in families. There are many new cases of type 2 diabetes that cannot be accounted for by heredity alone. The condition is far more common than people realize.
