Natality statistics summarize important information about the occurrence of pregnancy complications and harmful behaviors, in addition to infant mortality (death) and morbidity (illness) rates within a specific population. These data are used to identify problems in need of resolution and to identify progress in meeting national goals for improvement in the course and outcome of pregnancy.
