Answer to Question 1

In males, untreated celiac disease is related to alterations in the actions of androgens, delayed sexual maturation, and hypogonadism. Hypogonadism is marked by a deficiency of sex hormones, and poor development and functioning of the reproductive system. In females, untreated celiac disease is associated with amenorrhea, increased rates of miscarriage, fetal growth restriction, low birth-weight deliveries, and a short duration of lactation.
