Metabolic syndrome is a constellation of metabolic abnormalities that increase the risk of heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and other disorders. Metabolic syndrome is characterized by insulin resistance, abdominal obesity, high blood pressure and triglycerides levels, low levels of HDL cholesterol, and impaired glucose tolerance.
