Answer to Question 1

TRUE

Answer to Question 2

Diets that regularly include energy-dense foods are associated with overeating, excess calorie intake, weight gain, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Diets high in energy-dense foods may interfere with normal food-intake regulation mechanisms by overriding the onset of satiety. In addition, foods high in energy density tend to be nutrient poor, and those of low energy density are often nutrient rich. Because they are not energy dense, nutrient-rich foods can be consumed in higher quantities while keeping calorie intake in check. Regular consumption of nutrient-rich foods that are low in energy density is associated with favorable nutrient intake and reduced weight gain. Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean meats have lower energy densities than foods such as processed meats, fried foods, and high-fat, sweet desserts.
