Grass-roots efforts such as sharing and pooling resources, especially excess food, and providing food to those in need are very effective when neighbors help neighbors in local communities.

A malnourished child will grow up to be an adult that was not able to reach his or her maximum growth and development. As an adult, he or she will have a reduced capacity for physical work and lower productivity. This has far-reaching consequences for the economic stability of a whole society. Poverty and hunger go hand in hand, and breaking the cycle will go a long way to improving the standard of living for a whole society.
