Answer to Question 1

Low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, and feelings of helplessness, anxiety, and depression are all personality traits that make people more prone to eating disorders. Food preoccupation takes up a great deal of time. Individuals with eating disorders tend to be perfectionists. It can be a single incident such as being teased or ridiculed about weight or appearance that can act as a trigger in people who are emotionally vulnerable. Other triggers can include puberty, family dysfunction, a major change, or trauma (often sexual abuse).

Answer to Question 2

Families that are overly involved with each other (enmeshment). Families with little open communication, rigidity, and conflict avoidance. Families that have very loose family structure (chaotic or disengaged families). Mothers with eating disorders or those with body dissatisfaction can negatively influence their children.
