Eating disorders are more widespread in western industrialized societies where food is abundant and slimness is valued. The media perpetuate eating disorders by glamorizing unnaturally thin bodies. Body shapes of dolls are not realistic. Peers may add pressure about the importance of slimness to gain acceptance among friends.

Answer to Question 2

An eating disturbance defined as an irrational fear of trying new foods. Variety of food is very limited, and the individual engages in well-defined food rituals and practices. In adults, these types of behaviors are embarrassing and typically socially isolating. They may have their origin in childhooda picky eater that didn't outgrow an aversion to trying new foods later in life developed food neophobia.
