Phytochemicals are biologically active compounds thought to influence health. Specific phytochemicals thought to benefit heart health include plant sterols, stanols, and isoflavones. They are found mainly in soy products, compounds found in red wine and grapes, and sulfur-containing compounds abundant in garlic, onions, and leeks.
