The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) provided evidence that maintaining blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible can prevent many of the long-term complications associated with type 1 diabetes. Similarly, the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study provided evidence that controlling blood glucose within near-normal ranges could help reduce long-term complications associated with type 2 diabetes.
